SO If your hl2.exe has stopped working due to the shaderapidx9.dll problem i found the solution(at least for xp users). The problem is, for whatever reason your .dll file paths have become all messed up. Steps: 1. Go to this website windowsxp.mvps.org 2.Go to start to programs to accessories to command prompt 3. On the website, under the section called “Re-registering the WMI components” , copy and paste the 3 commands into the prompt one at a time and hit enter. (I don’t know if this actually fixed it, but i did it in order for things to work) 4.Under “Comprehensive rebuild method” copy the long command and enter it into the prompt. You will be prompted to insert the service pack 2 disk or browse to the service folder and continue. (I just browsed for the folder [your drive: then windows: then service pack files] ) 5.You will likely get a bunch of errors saying you need to locate the specific files. To do this click browse and search for the files. IF you have files that are completely missing you can probably download them from www.dll-files.com or other various websites. You can also Google the location of the files and find it that way too. (if you do not want to go through this hassle, you might want to try downloading a program like regcure to fix the path references) 6.After All of this is completed, restart your computer and run the game and it should work perfectly.
