Google I/O 2010 – Optimizing apps with the GWT Compiler

Google I/O 2010 – Faster apps faster – Optimizing apps with the GWT Compiler GWT 201 Ray Cromwell The GWT compiler isn’t just a Java to JavaScript transliterator. It performs many optimizations along the way. In this session, we’ll show you not only the optimizations performed, but how you can get more out of the compiler itself. Learn how to speed up compiles, use -draftCompile, compile for only one locale/browser permutation, and more. For all I/O 2010 sessions, please go to code.google.com

Thank you Google for optimizing apps with the GWT Compiler. It’s very useful.

This advancement in scripting allows for more complex scripts in a much, much smaller space.

Ha, i liked when he said

“In general, if you keep methods small and functional, by small i mean it’s just a few lines long and functional I mean, they don’t mutate much, or they don’t mutate anything at all. So, like they just kind of take the parameters, perform some kind of computation and return it. The compiler will be able to do a better job because it can reason better about pure functional code than about code that mutates a bunch of stuff all over the program.”

I’m just a google fanboy, so what do I know… BUT STILL:

Ray is one hack of a lecturer, fluid, coherent, knowledgeable

GWT Is one heck of technology (Nothing MS has comes even close)

Googles that came up with GWT are freaking crazy. How smart can you be? Yes, I know Crockford disses this tech, i wonder if he changed his mind.

BTW, A question: is ray a google employee? Last year saw his video, which was great too, and i think he talked as guest speaker.

amazing job google, i used the new compiler on one of my “home made” apps and it compressed it from 2-3 pages of script to just 4 lines of code. This advancement in scripting allows for more complex scripts in a much, much smaller space.
