Considering doing my own wedding flowers, need tips and useful links?

Question by lalala: Considering doing my own wedding flowers, need tips and useful links?
I’m exploring an idea and a possibility of doing my now wedding flowers, since i have an expensive taste and a small budget. I really like this type of centerpiece: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://flowerswithfeeling.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/wedding-centerpiece-elevated_led.jpg&imgrefurl=http://flowerswithfeeling.wordpress.com/2008/05/20/weddingideasusingledlights/&usg=__1h1VqmpqHvZ-Sl230AtIDo7rg-w=&h=800&w=600&sz=88&hl=en&start=0&sig2=rh9oRTYLDgcAoKmyi91v7Q&zoom=1&tbnid=xMrjTFDCh17xGM:&tbnh=188&tbnw=131&ei=nd6KTKrbMYfCsAOvp52gBA&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwedduing%2Bcenterpiece%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1200%26bih%3D629%26tbs%3Disch:10,100&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=359&oei=nd6KTKrbMYfCsAOvp52gBA&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=13&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0&tx=100&ty=52&biw=1200&bih=629

But florist quotes I got were around $ 170-200 per centerpiece, I need 15 of them. I only have 2.5k to spend on flowers.

Anyone has links with step by step directions on how to arrange flowers like that?
How far in advance can I make my own flowers so they don’t wither on the day of my wedding? Do I need to make them the same morning, or can I do it 24 hours in advance? Will it still look the same if i do it ahead of time?

thank you

you can get wedding flowers to last for 24 hours if you keep them cold. you will either need to refrigerate them or keep the a/c turned down pretty low so the room is cold. also, the type of flowers you use will make a difference.

if you use roses, carnations, peonies, daisies, hydrangeas or mums they will keep very well. if you use orchids or calla lilies, they do not keep as well, so choose flowers which will keep better.

the best place to get flowers that are super fresh delivered to you at your home or at the venue, order online from a wholesaler. here is a great site for wedding flowers in bulk for do it yourself flowers. http://www.fiftyflowers.com/ the flowers pictured in the photo you posted appear to be white peonies with pink roses. pure white peonies are very expensive. you can obtain the same effect using large head white carnations for a quarter of the price…plus they will have a nice fragrance.

for the lights shown in the photo of your centerpieces, go to http://www.save-on-crafts.com/ you can get the lights there as well as tons of ideas and all that you need to make them. the submerseable lights which you put right in the water in clear vases come in various colors and you can get packs of 10 for only 28 dollars. they make really cool looking centerpieces. this site also has vases and candles and everything there. it is a huge site so give yourself plenty of time to look around. hope this helps you.
